Looking to print custom brochures but don’t understand the different size and style options available?

You’re not alone. Choosing the right brochure size and fold style is essential to reaching your marketing and creative goals. We’ll break down each standard size, dimensions and fold options so you can be confident in your brochure printing choices.

What is the difference between a brochure and a flyer?

A common point of confusion is the difference between a brochure and a flyer. In a word it is the fold. Brochures come in various sizes but all brochures are folded. Choosing the right fold will be the first step in creating a custom brochure design and choosing the correct size for your needs. The standard brochure fold styles are:

Bi-fold brochure (4 panels)

The simplest of the brochure fold styles, a bi-fold brochure – also called a half-fold brochure – gives designers 4 panels to work with, one being a cover. The brochure is folded once in the centre of the brochure.

Tri fold brochure (6 panels)

A tri fold brochure – also called a z fold brochure – is made up of 6 unique panels. The brochure is folders twice, making each side of the brochure divide into 3 equal sections.

Concertina, Accordion or Z – fold brochure (6, 8 & 12 panels)

An accordion fold brochure is made up of 6, 8 or 12 individual sections, with one being the cover. This is also known as concertina fold or z-fold.

Brochure Size Options

Now you understand the various fold options available, the next step is to choose the correct brochure size for your needs. Each style is available in these brochure size choices:

 DL Brochure Size

The DL brochure size – meaning dimension lengthwise – is popular because of its conveniently small size making it cost effective and perfect for promotional materials and information brochures that need to be space efficient.

DL Tri fold210mm x 99mm210mm x 297mm
DL Accordion fold210mm x 99mmDepending on the number of pages.

A4 Brochure

An A4 brochure is the largest of the brochure size options available. Each section of the brochure is the size of a full A4 sheet of paper, so this brochure size is the perfect choice when you have a lot of information to communicate or when you want more space to create visually striking designs.

A5 Brochure Size

The A5 brochure size is exactly half that of the A4 dimensions. The smaller resulting brochure size makes things compact while still having enough space to fit more content than a DL brochure size, and maintains the familiar ratio of a regular document.

A6 Brochure

An A6 brochure exactly halves the A5 brochure size again, or a quarter of an A4 brochure. This small brochure size makes it perfect for letterboxing campaigns, front desk promotions and information brochures to be placed inside packaging.

Paper stock

The last step to the perfect brochure, once you have chosen the style and brochure size for you, is choosing the right paper stock to print on. Printroom print in a variety of paper stocks to suit any brochure print run!

115gsm Gloss Art Paper

The classic and most affordable paper stock option, 115gsm is strong and versatile, perfect for most brochure needs. Printed on a gloss finish, this paper will make colours pop and has a clean, professional look.

150gsm Gloss Art Paper

If you are looking for a sturdier, heavier weighing, and more upmarket feel to your brochure run, 150gsm paper is the right choice. On a gloss finish, this paper stock has the same look as its 115gsm counterpart.

150gsm Matt Art Paper

A matt finish is perfect if you are looking for a timeless, sophisticated look. Matt paper is also non reflective, so it will look better under artificial lighting. Matt paper stock is less resistant to damage than gloss paper, but makes a great first impression.
